Sally Stewart, MSW, Chief Executive Officer
A native Cincinnatian, Sally Stewart has worked in Over-the-Rhine for over 25 years and loves the diversity and historical aspect of the community. She holds a master's in social work from the University of Kentucky. In the 1980s, Sally began working with a group of health care providers who were motivated by their Christian faith and shared a vision of providing health care to the residents of Over-the-Rhine. Following her convictions, Sally moved into a modest Over-the-Rhine apartment where she could see and feel firsthand the needs of her neighbors. As one of Crossroad’s founders, she has devoted the past 20 years promoting accessible, affordable and quality health care services for all residents of the community.
As one of Crossroad Health Center's founders, Sally has been Crossroad's first and only Chief Executive Officer. Through Sally’s hard work and vision, Crossroad continues to grow in size and quality. Under her leadership, Crossroad has grown from a small health center in a converted classroom at Peaslee Neighborhood Center to two locations, one at the corner of Liberty and Vine streets in Over-the-Rhine and Crossroad Pediatrics West located in Western Hills. Sally wants Crossroad to be a source of hope for people in the community with a focus on families and giving children a healthy start in life.
Charles Schubert, MD, Founder and Director of Pediatrics
Charles Schubert, MD, Founder and Director of Pediatrics
Dr. Chuck Schubert, one of Crossroad Health Center's founders, is the Director of Pediatrics at Crossroad and Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Motivated by his faith in God and his desire to use his training as a doctor to serve the poor, Chuck and his wife, Julie, moved to the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood in downtown Cincinnati to understand firsthand the needs of people living in this low-income community. From this relocation experience came the vision for Crossroad Health Center, where Chuck served as Medical Director until 2003.
It was Chuck's passion to provide high-quality medical care to low-income patients that eventually led to his work at a mission hospital in rural Zambia, where he provided clinical care and partnered with local staff in leadership development. He is the recipient of many awards including the Martin Luther King, Jr., Humanitarian Award, Health Care Hero Award, Local Heroes Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Community Pediatrics, and has twice received the Division of Emergency Medicine Teaching Award. In addition to his patient care responsibilities at Crossroad, Chuck is presently directing the development of the Global Health Educational program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
David Rahner, M.D., Medical Director
David Rahner, M.D., Medical Director
Dr. David Rahner is the Medical Director of Crossroad Health Center. Dave attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati where he served as a leader of the Medical Student Christian Fellowship, and also met his wife, Trish Powers, M.D. After serving on medical missions in Asia, Dave and Trish felt confirmed in their calling to mission work. Initially this desire was directed overseas, but after three years of membership in an inner-city church Dave and Trish were sold on the inner city. Immediately after finishing residency training in 1992, Dave and Trish joined the staff at Crossroad Health Center as it was opening. They also moved their young family into Over-the-Rhine.
Dave has received numerous local and state awards as a physician, most recently the Quality of Care Award from the Ohio Senate and a Healthcare Hero Award runner-up from the Cincinnati Business Courier. He is also a volunteer assistant professor of family medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and has been chosen as a top family doctor by Cincy Magazine in 2010 and 2011.
Dave and Trish now have eight wonderful and busy children. They are excited to be a part of God’s expanding work among the poor of Cincinnati.
