April Is Volunteer Appreciation Month

Crossroad salutes its Volunteer Internship Program students, who generously give their time while gaining on-the-job training. Many are premed students and benefit firsthand from experiencing what it means to be a primary care provider to a low-income and uninsured population.

Interns strive to make health care as simple and accessible as possible for patients. By volunteering four hours a week for a year, they help coordinate patient care and schedule referral appointments at outside offices.

Volunteer Intern Maggie Fitzpatric says, “Being at Crossroad opened my eyes to barriers that our patients face in getting access to health care and everything else, including food, transportation and housing. As future doctors, knowing those things can help us treat them better medically.”
