Student & Resident Learners
We Welcome Learners!
Thank you for your interest in partnering with Crossroad Health Center as a student or resident learner (or institution that places students or residents). We are a Christian faith-based Federally Qualified Health Center who partners primarily with our local/regional training institutions and, as resources allow, additional students who align with our mission: to honor Jesus Christ by providing accessible, comprehensive health care in partnership with our patients and community leading to healthy, changed lives. If this is a mission that aligns with your personal or institution goals, please read on and contact us if you are interested in applying for a student or resident learning opportunity.
Learner Types
We have learners with us every day at our sites. Learners include undergraduate pre-health-sciences students shadowing our providers, and graduate-level students, including medical students, pharmacy students, nurse practitioner students and physician assistant students.
We also host many primary care residents (family medicine, pediatrics and internal medicine MD/DOs) as learners, and we employ nurse practitioner and physician assistants in our APP (Advanced Practice Provider) Residency Program.
Partnerships
Institutions we partner with in hosting learners include:
- University of Cincinnati
- Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
- Christian Medical and Dental Association
- Christian Community Health Fellowship
- Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International
- Cedarville College
Learners from our partnering institutions with whom we have agreements do not need to have a personal mission and values that fully align with those of Crossroad, but they should feel comfortable supporting Crossroad’s mission and values.
Values
Our values and guiding principles include:
- Serve the Underserved: To provide services for an underserved population or those with lower incomes
- Cherish Everyone: To value and cherish all individuals as Christ does regardless of race, religion, culture, social or economic standing, or outward appearance
- Share Christ’s Love: To share Christ’s love in word and deed including with a spirit of prayer, while respecting the beliefs of others
- Promote Life: To uphold and promote the sacredness of all human life from conception to death
- Jesus as Our Healer: To promote health of the whole person – body, mind, and spirit – acknowledging God as the ultimate source of all health
- Work with Integrity: To work with integrity, excellence and as faithful stewards of our corporate and personal resources
- Partner with the Church: To work with and support the Christian church. To teach and to share our vision with others
History
Our history helps to further clarify our mission and values. Please visit our history page to learn more about how Crossroad was founded and how it has grown.
Crossroad was founded in 1992 based on a conviction that God has a special concern for the poor. This conviction emerged from a Bible study of the Sycamore Street Fellowship Bible study, named after the street in Cincinnati’s inner-city neighborhood of Over-the-Rhine where Julie and Chuck Schubert, two of Crossroad’s founders, were living. One of Crossroad’s guiding scriptures is Christ’s words recorded in Matthew’s gospel: “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
Structure
For learners applying outside of our standard partnerships/rotations, our Educational Partnerships Committee reviews student applications to determine our capacity based on timing and volume of the requested rotation. The learner’s schedule or structure may vary based on learner requests from a brief shadowing experience, to a 1-month rotation, to a longitudinal placement over a longer period of time.
