Crossroad Announces CEO Transition
After more than a decade of leading Crossroad Health Center, a Cincinnati-based nonprofit health services organization, CEO James Berrens (left) will retire this spring. The organization has already chosen his successor.
Berrens will step down on May 29. After a nationwide search, the Crossroad board of trustees selected Crossroad’s Chief Financial Officer Timothy Vale as his replacement.
Berrens joined Crossroad in 2010 as its CFO. He served in this role until 2015, when he was appointed interim CEO. In 2016, the board of trustees named him CEO of Crossroad, which operates four health centers – Over-the-Rhine, Mt. Auburn, Western Hills and Harrison.
“It has been a tremendous privilege to serve our patients with the dignity and respect they deserve,” says Berrens. “When I became CEO, I was committed to strengthening our infrastructure to better support a growing organization.”
Crossroad, a federally-qualified health center, now offers a wide range of patient services, including primary care for children and adults, prenatal and women’s health care, behavioral health care, acupuncture, chiropractic care, medication-assisted treatment for addiction, and an on-site pharmacy.
Today, Berrens says, “We have more than 90 staff across four locations in Cincinnati and Harrison. That means we’re able to serve more children and adults than ever before. Above all, I’m extremely proud of the quality of care we provide to our patients.”
CFO steps into top role
Tim Vale has spent more than two decades in executive financial roles. He joined Crossroad’s leadership team in 2016 as its CFO.
During his tenure as CFO, Vale strengthened the organization’s financial position while improving efficiency and reducing costs. Under his watch, he expanded federal program funding, generating more than $1 million in revenue while reducing medication prices for our patients.
“I am honored and humbled to be selected as the next CEO of this wonderful organization,” Vale says. “I feel God has led me to this place. I will work hard to continue our success and I will be forever grateful to Jamie for his contributions to Crossroad, as well as his confidence in me.”
Vale credits Berrens’ leadership in expanding and shaping the health center’s direction. “During the past decade, Crossroad has experienced a 70 percent increase in revenue,” Vale says. “Thanks to Jamie’s determination to bring high-quality health care to those most in need, he has expanded the number of clinics and increased the staff who care for our patients. He has led us through difficult times, including the Covid years. He laid the groundwork that ensures Crossroad is built to endure for decades to come.”
