This Christmas Season, Give the Gift of Good Health
On Giving Tuesday, Give the Gift of Good Health
Everyone deserves a holiday season filled with joy, love and family. But for some, this time of year is a painful reminder of all they lack. At Crossroad, we believe there’s no greater act than uplifting someone in their time of need.
Your support is the reason we can serve thousands of patients like Lavonne and her granddaughter. Many of our patients struggle to cover their basic needs, including food, housing and transportation.
Lavonne’s Story
Lavonne has had a hard year. Her only child, April, died of pancreatic cancer after a 10-year struggle. Now the 76-year-old grandmother, who has raised April’s 16-year-old daughter since infancy, has sole custody of the teen.
On top of everything else, Lavonne has her own share of problems. A few years ago, she began coughing up blood. The diagnosis was lung cancer. Lavonne underwent surgery and is now in remission. Then a painful joint led to hip replacement surgery. Today, her health conditions put her at risk for diabetes.
But Lavonne doesn’t face these hardships alone. She is a longtime patient at Crossroad Health Center. Her provider, Whitney Lynn, a nurse practitioner, watches over her and carefully monitors her various issues. “Whitney is a wonderful woman,” Lavonne says. “I can come to her with any sad story and talk to her about it. She talks with me, prays with me. She wants me to be strong and healthy.”
Whitney is not the only one making a difference for Lavonne. Lavonne meets with our diabetic educator regularly to review her diet and learn healthy eating habits. A behavioral health counselor helps Lavonne and her granddaughter, also a Crossroad patient, to successfully navigate difficult school issues.
To make it easier for our patients, all these services, and more, are offered under one roof. Crossroad believes in treating the whole patient – body, mind and spirit. We strive to create a medical home that supports every aspect of a patient’s health. And we do it from a foundation of faith and prayer.
“Everyone at Crossroad makes me feel wanted,” says Lavonne. “This is my clinic. I ain’t going anywhere. It’s like a family to me. Somebody else loves me as much as God loves me.”
At Crossroad, we face the challenge of delivering high-quality health care while prices for care continue to soar. Because our patients’ needs are often complex, we must devote considerable time with each person to uncover and treat their many medical conditions. Your generosity helps provide the greatest gift of all: hope. During the season that celebrates Jesus’ birth, we’re reminded that helping those in need is a calling for every Christian.
